Man rescued after wading into River Mersey

A man has been rescued from the River Mersey after he got into difficulties when he waded in during the early hours.

The man was seen entering the water on a stretch near Wallasey Town Hall.

Hoylake Coastguard, the New Brighton inshore rescue boat and the Lancashire Police helicopter were called to the scene at 0237 BST.

The man was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he was treated for mild hypothermia, HM Coastguard said.
