Camels in race at Doncaster track

There was an unfamiliar sight at Doncaster Racecourse when a group of camels galloped down the home straight.

Camel racing, which is usually seen in the Middle East, was brought to the town's racecourse for the first time on Friday, before the main fixtures.

A racecourse spokeswoman said the race was expected to "bring a few wry smiles to our racing stalwarts".

Jockey Jamie Doyle said: "It's good fun, it's different. Mine was a bit quirky but it's pretty quick."

The event was organised by Leeds solicitors Simpson Millar, who sponsored the race day.
