Busy year for East Yorkshire coast RNLI lifeguards

Lifeguards working for the RNLI helped more than 200 people on East Yorkshire beaches last year, figures have revealed.

The busiest area was Bridlington South beach, where lifeguards responded to 94 calls for help.

At Bridlington North, there were 65 call-outs, in Hornsea there were 43 and in Withernsea there were 32.

Nationally, RNLI lifeguards saved 123 lives and helped almost 16,000 people who got into difficulty.

Incidents needing the help of a lifeguard increased by 10% per beach from last year, the RNLI said.

The charity is warning beach-goers to make sure they take care this summer.
