Girl sexually threatened by man in Salford

Police are looking for a man who followed a girl and asked her to have sex with him.

The 11-year-old had been talking to friends in Great Cheetham Street East, Broughton, when the man approached her at about 2100 BST on 13 June.

Police said the girl crossed the road to get away from him, but he followed and asked her to have sex with him.

The man, described as in his mid-30s, of mixed race and 6ft tall, tailed her for a short time before giving up.

Police said the man had short straight hair and was wearing a blue Lacoste top and dark tracksuit bottoms with white stripes on each leg.

Det Con Philip Turney said: "The victim has been left shocked and terrified by this incident and luckily she managed to get away from him.

"The incident happened at a time when it was quite light and there were a few people around, so I'd like anyone who saw anything suspicious or who recognises the description of the offender to contact us.

"I do not want to cause any undue alarm in the community and would like to reassure parents this is being treated as an isolated incident.

"I would also ask that people, particularly young girls, follow a few simple safety tips such as staying with their friends and not talking to strangers."
