Two men have been charged after a vandalism attack in a Dumfries and Galloway cemetery.

Christopher Frost, 22, of High Street, Dalbeattie, and Alexander McIntosh, 18, of Millburn Avenue, Dumfries, appeared in private at Dumfries Sheriff Court.

They were on petitions alleging they pushed over and damaged 47 headstones at Kirkcudbright Cemetery.

Depute fiscal Bob Morrison said no plea was made and the case was continued. Both men were remanded in custody.

They were also alleged to have damaged a section of stone dyke at the cemetery.

In addition they were accused of setting fire to a tree and a bench in the town.
