Graeme McDowell will return to Northern Ireland on Wednesday three days after his triumph at the US Open.

His one-shot victory at Pebble Beach made him the first man from Northern Ireland to win one of golf's four major tournaments since Fred Daly in 1947.

The star's friends and family gathered in his home town of Portrush on Monday morning to watch his victory.

Following the win, the 30-year-old said he was looking forward to having a pint of Guinness in a bar in the town.

A press conference is expected to be held at Rathmore Golf Club in Portrush on Wednesday evening.
