Man faces Stranraer footballer murder bid trial

A man is to stand trial accused of a murder bid on a young Scots footballer who had been on a Christmas night out.

James Jackson, 51, appeared at the High Court in Glasgow for a preliminary hearing.

He was charged with attacking Stranraer midfielder Paul McInnes, 20, at Seamill Hydro in Ayrshire in December.

Mr Jackson also faces an allegation he assaulted Mr McInnes's friend, Anthony Boyle, to the danger of his life. The case was adjourned to 16 August.
