Boat used to reach Lake District island grass fire

Firefighters had to take to the water to tackle an incident in the Lake District.

It followed a report by a member of the public about a grass fire on a small, uninhabited island in Thirlmere on Monday night.

One pumping appliance and the major rescue vehicle from Workington arrived at the lake shore, where the crew launched a boat.

The fire was extinguished using beaters and buckets of water.
