Murder inquiry over body in Blackburn alley

A murder investigation is under way after the body of a man was discovered in an alleyway in Lancashire.

Officers found the victim, who was aged in his 20s, just off Warrington Street in Blackburn shortly before 0200 BST.

It is believed the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, had been chased from Zion Road along Providence Street to the alley.

Detectives have not revealed the nature of his injuries.

A post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death will be carried out later.

Det Supt Neil Hunter, who is leading the investigation, said: "I have a dedicated team of detectives working on this case and it is imperative that we find the person responsible for this attack as soon as possible.

"Whilst this investigation is still in its early stages, it is fast moving and we are following up a number of lines of enquiry. The priority line of enquiry at the moment is to identify this man and start putting together a picture of his last movements.

"We need the public's help and any amount of information, matter how small or inconceivable it may seem, could be crucial to this investigation."
