Injured woman on yacht off Essex airlifted to hospital


A woman who suffered spinal injuries in a fall on a motor yacht off the Essex coast was airlifted to hospital on Monday.

Walton and Frinton lifeboat went to assist the 40ft motor yacht Carpe Diem after a mayday appeal at lunchtime.

A search and rescue helicopter from Wattisham in Suffolk on exercise in the area was diverted to the incident.

A lifeboat crew boarded the yacht and the woman was taken to Ipswich Hospital by helicopter.

The yacht was towed to Levington Marina on the River Orwell in Suffolk and the lifeboat returned to normal duty in the early evening.
