Rubbish collections in Inverness have been affected by an "abnormally large " number of bin lorries breaking down, Highland Council has said.
Wheelie bins containing garden waste for recycling were not picked up so crews could make sure household waste was uplifted.
The authority's waste management said the longest bins had been left uncollected was a few days.
Areas affected in the city included properties in Culduthel.
A spokesman said a "slightly abnormally large" number of vehicles had to go into a workshop for repairs.
He said crews have since caught up with any backlog.
However, bins with garden waste left out for collection in parts of Culduthel were not emptied on Monday as scheduled.
