Sleat pupils kept off school in protest

Parents concerned about a potential cut to the number of teachers at a school on Skye have kept their children at home in protest.

They claim the five staff teaching Gaelic medium education at Sleat Primary will be reduced to three under plans by Highland Council.

Forty-three pupils in the Gaelic unit stayed away, but the majority of English medium children came in.

Parents involved in the protest said there has been no consultation on cuts.
