Gorse fire damages acre of Devon common

Six fire crews were called to deal with a gorse fire which spread across an acre of land in east Devon.

Four crews were originally called to the scene on Woodbury Common, near the Bystock Reservoir, at about 1645 BST on Saturday.

After finding the gorse and a number of trees well alight, two more crews were requested to attend.

The fire service said that hose reel jets, a water bowser and beaters were used to extinguish the fire.

There were no reports of any injuries.
