Maidenhead schoolchildren cycle path opened

A new cycle route with road crossings aimed at making it easier for Berkshire schoolchildren to ride and walk to school has been completed.

The £340,000 Maidenhead project was funded between the council and the government's Links to School programme.

Newlands Girls' School, Altwood CE Secondary, St Edmund Campion RC Primary and All Saints CE Junior School are expected to benefit.

The work was carried out after consultation with residents and pupils.

Councillor Colin Rayner, member for highways and streetcare, said: "It is great to see the completion of this cycle path which will hopefully encourage more people of all ages to walk or cycle.

"I would especially like to thank those residents who responded to our consultation with suggestions that we could include in our plans, in particular widening the path between Newlands Drive and Farm Road."
