NI crash victim's name released

The name of an 18-year-old Belfast man who was killed in a road accident in Hampshire, England, has been released.

Lee Ronald Smith, of Fernhill Heights in the city died after the car he was driving left the Whitehill Road in Borden on Tuesday night and hit a tree.

He was one of four serving Army personnel in the vehicle.

Two of the passengers - a 17-year-old from Blackpool and an 18-year-old from Devon - were seriously injured and are being treated in hospital in London.

They both remain in a critical but stable condition.

Another teenager suffered minor injuries.

Lee Smith was a former member of Irish League champions Linfield FC's Youth Academy and had played for their reserve side.

Irvine Woods, chairman of Linfield's Youth Academy, paid tribute to the teenager.

"He was a boy who was totally committed, dedicated and truly hardworking and honest throughout his young footballing career, a lad who had a bright future and was a credit to not only our club, but also to his family," he said.

"We are heartened that he touched our lives at this club, but this club will sorely miss his bubbly enthusiastic nature,as will our society."
