Work has been completed on a £9.7m leisure complex on North Tyneside.

The Hadrian Leisure Centre in Wallsend has been built alongside the town's Burnside Business and Enterprise College.

Construction work began 18 months ago, with North Tyneside Council planning to formally open the complex to the public on 5 July.

The centre features a six-lane swimming pool, a six-court sports hall, together with dance and exercise studios.

Glynis Barrie, North Tyneside Council's cabinet member for community services, said: "We are sure the Wallsend community will enjoy what the facility has to offer."
