A man has died after he was involved in a collision with a digger while working on the M6 in Lancashire.
Edward Fitzgerald suffered serious injuries on the hard shoulder of the northbound carriageway near Garstang on Wednesday evening.
The 26-year-old, from Heysham, died shortly after being airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital.
His sister, Patricia Stanley, described him as a "gentle giant" who "was always full of jokes and fun".
She added: "I have no words to describe the loss we all feel as he was such a big part of all our lives.
"Since our mother passed away many years ago, Eddie and I have been like mother and son.
"He was a gentle giant who was always there for me and would do anything you asked of him.
"He had so many friends and was liked by everyone he met.
"He was like a big brother to my children and he looked after us all and was generous with all that he did for us.
"Eddie, we all love you and you will be always in our thoughts."
Both HM Coroner and the Health and Safety Executive have been informed.
