Bristol benefit cheat was on Channel 4 show Wife Swap

A woman who fraudulently claimed about £10,000 in benefits was caught after she appeared on the Channel 4 reality show Wife Swap.

Kelly Jones, 23, of Fishponds, Bristol, claimed to be a single mother when she was in fact living with her partner.

She admitted three counts of failing to notify authorities of her change in circumstances before Bristol magistrates on Wednesday.

The city council was tipped off after the programme was screened last June.

'Lazy mum'

Jones, who went by her maiden name Moyston when the show was filmed, was described in its promotional material as "a self-confessed lazy mum".

Her partner, now her husband, Steven Jones, a 40-year-old bus driver, also from Fishponds, pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting his wife.

The offences happened between July 2008 and December 2009, the court heard.

The pair will be sentenced at a later date.

Fraud investigators in Bristol have said that they have uncovered more than 170 benefit cheats in the last financial year - a record number for the city.
