Police seize drink during patrols in Glossop
Police have seized 40 cans or bottles of drink over one evening in a Derbyshire town.
Officers carried out patrols to cut under-age drinking and anti-social behaviour in Glossop on Friday evening.
It is part of an continuing initiative to tackle the problem in response to complaints from residents.
Officers said they had contacted the parents or guardians of under-age people found with alcohol.
Pc Julian Gallagher said: "By confiscating alcohol from under-age drinkers we hope this will have the effect of reducing the number of anti-social or nuisance behaviour incidents.
"Not every young person is involved in anti-social behaviour or under-age drinking and it is unfair to assume that all youngsters are the same, but residents can be assured that we will be taking the appropriate action against those individuals who are."
Pc Gallagher said police were working with local schools, licensed premises, Derbyshire Youth Service and the High Peak Community Safety Partnership to find other ways of tackling under-age drinking.
