A mother accused of taking nearly £11,000 from the compensation payment to her soldier son who lost a leg in Afghanistan has died.

Angela Woollard, 43, from Southend, Essex, was due to stand trial later this month on a fraud charge.

Private Matt Woollard, of the Royal Anglians, received £200,000 after stepping on a landmine in May 2007.

Ms Woollard died in Southend Hospital this weekend from complications as a result of a broken leg.
