Maritime experts from around the world have come to Belfast for a major conference starting on Tuesday.
Over the next three days, industrial and environmental representatives will consider how best to look after the oceans at the Sustainable Ocean Summit.
Paul Holthus, from the World Ocean Council, said the conference has taken on greater importance because of what's happening in the Gulf of Mexico.
"We have to assess how the industry operates in the marine environment.
"The situation in the Gulf of Mexico really highlights the need for ocean industries to think about their activities and its impact on the marine environment."
