A loaded firearm has been seized after a police officer spotted three people trying to empty a bag on the banks of a river in Greater Manchester.
The suspects were seen by the River Irwell in Lower Broughton, Salford on Sunday morning.
After calling for back-up, the officer arrested a man and two women. A 9mm loaded pistol was recovered.
Det Sgt Simon Akker said: "The officer's actions means one less gun on the streets, which is a great result."
The three suspects were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and remain in police custody for questioning.
Mr Akker added: "We may never know what this gun was intended for, the fact remains that guns rob families of their loved ones and have caused a lot of misery in Greater Manchester."
