Rockfall at popular climbing spot

Several tonnes of rock have come away at a popular climbing area in the Highlands and crashed down on to a spot where climbers often take a break.

The collapse happened at Etive Slabs in Glen Etive and saw rocks fall on to the Coffin Stone.

Hebe Carus, of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland, said it was lucky no-one was at the stone at the time.

She said the amount of rock involved was significant, but climbing routes were not badly affected.

The grading of difficulty on the Long Reach route may have changed after some possible damage.
