Three waste recycling centres in Nottinghamshire are to close with the money being reinvested in other services.
The county council said it would close the sites in Gedling, Stapleford and Sutton-in-Ashfield on 1 August.
It said the sites cost £360,000-a-year to run and the money would be reinvested into care services for older people and child protection.
Campaigners have claimed closing the centres will lead to more fly-tipping.
Councillor Richard Butler, of Nottinghamshire County Council, said closing the sites had been a "difficult decision".
