The names of two soldiers who died while serving in Afghanistan have been added to a war memorial in Leicestershire.

Marine Jonathan Wigley, 21, who died in 2006, was born in Melton Mowbray and grew up in Lincolnshire.

Acting Corporal Marcin Wojtak, 24, of Leicester, was killed in 2009 in Afghanistan's Helmand Province.

The two servicemen were honoured in a special service at the war memorial.

Corporal Ken Mogg, 29, who died in Northern Ireland in 1972, had the date of his death added next to his name.

'Friendly fire'

Some of the funding for the work on the memorial came through the Leicestershire and Rutland War Memorials Project.

Led by Leicestershire County Council it records, researches and photographs war memorials and looks into the lives of the people they commemorate.

Corporal Mogg was killed by a sniper while on British Army mobile patrol in Belfast.

Cpl Wojtak was killed when his vehicle was blown up by a roadside bomb.

Marine Wigley was killed in a "friendly fire" incident involving an American aircraft, in December 2006, six days after returning to Afghanistan from leave.
