Pensioner killed in 999 crash had community award


A pensioner killed when he was hit by a police car responding to an emergency call in Coventry was a pillar of his local neighbourhood watch group.

Denis Skelley, 82, died as he crossed Walsgrave Road in the Stoke area of the city on 10 June.

Four years ago Mr Skelley, from Stoke, received a co-ordinator award from West Midlands Police for his work.

The circumstances surrounding his death are being examined by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
