Woman rescued from car hanging over 4ft drop in Bristol


A woman in her 70s was rescued by firefighters after losing control of her car which ended up hanging over a 4ft (1.2m)drop.

Crews were called to Baynham Court, Hanham, where they found the vehicle hanging over the edge of a bin store at the bottom of the hill.

The car was stabilised the driver's door bent open in order to get the woman out.

She was taken to hospital with suspected neck injuries.

A spokeswoman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "She was unable to get out as the vehicle was unstable.

"Firefighters stabilised the vehicle using blocks and other equipment and then they were able to bend the driver's door back.

"Working with paramedics, the woman was assisted onto a spinal board and taken to hospital by ambulance."

She said it was unclear how the car, which had been parked at the top of the hill, had come to rest over the bin store.
