A taxi driver has been robbed of his car at knifepoint after picking up two women near Uddingston in Lanarkshire.

The 41-year-old man was stopped by the women on Blantyre Farm Road at about 0030 BST.

They later asked him to stop to pick up their friend. Four men appeared and one of the women threatened him with a knife and told him to get out of the car.

The blue Vauxhall Vectra car has the registration number DU54 YLB.

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The taxi driver was uninjured, but badly shaken as a result of the robbery, which happened just as they approached Blantyre.

There were no descriptions available for the suspects.

Det Sgt Robert Bryce of Hamilton Police Office said: "Officers are currently carrying out enquiries in the local area in an effort to gather more information on this crime.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have seen this robbery take place, or may have details on the whereabouts of this vehicle to come forward."
