Forest of Dean rapist has sentence cut by Appeal Court

A former boxer who raped a man after a New Year's Eve party has had his 12-year jail term cut by three years to nine at the Criminal Court of Appeal.

John Walton Cadogan, 27, attacked the 20-year-old near Lydney Rugby Club in Gloucestershire on 1 January 2009.

Judges rejected his plea that the conviction was unsafe, but said the 12-year term was "excessive".

A three-year licence, during which Cadogan, of Blakeney, will be monitored in the community, remains unchanged.
