An inmate attempted to murder a Polish prisoner with a metal bar in the gym of Aberdeen's Craiginches Prison, a court has heard.

Keith Porter, 22, went on trial at the High Court in Inverness after denying assaulting Daniel Kaizer in a racially-aggravated attack.

The incident is alleged to have happened on 4 December.

It is also alleged Mr Porter previously showed malice and ill will towards Mr Kaizer.

Three other men are also alleged to have attacked another Polish man, Lukasz Rusek.

The Crown claims the alleged attack by George Stewart, Matthew Greig and Sean Laurenson was also racially-aggravated.

The men deny the charge.

The trial continues.
