The RSPCA is trying to find the owner of a pedigree cat found in a wheelie bin.

The male Birman cat was found by a council worker in the Green Lane area between Newport and Cardiff.

The cat, which is about eight years old and neutured, was taken to the RSPCA's Newport animal centre.

The RSPCA is now trying to discover more about the owners of the cat, described as being in a good physical condition.

Centre manager Elaine Buchan said: "He's a beautiful animal, well looked after and his owner must be very worried.

"If anyone has lost a cream and white Birman, or knows of someone who has, I would appeal to them to call the animal centre urgently on 0300 1230744."

The cat was discovered on 1 June when the council worker lifted the bin lid.
