Staffordshire Police target suspected football thugs

More than 30 suspected football hooligans will be targeted in a two-day arrest operation by Staffordshire Police.

Violence broke out at Port Vale FC's match on 8 May against Shrewsbury in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent.

Eight people were arrested on the day after Port Vale supporters attacked police officers. Shrewsbury fans were not involved.

Those being targeted were identified from CCTV and police footage.

Came forward

Police previously issued 11 images of suspects on the force website and through local media to be identified.

It resulted in more than 50 calls to the force's football unit and most of those 11 came forward after seeing themselves.

Police today issued a new picture of the single suspect to remain unidentified.

Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact the football unit.

Ch Insp Pete Hall, of Staffordshire police, said: "We are determined to bring those responsible for this disorder to justice and place them before the courts to answer the charges against them."
