New Northern Ireland Affairs committee chair appointed

Laurence Robertson has been appointed as the new chairman of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee.

The Conservative MP for Tewkesbury was nominated unopposed on Tuesday night

Mr Robertson, who is from Bolton in Lancashire, has been the shadow junior minister for Northern Ireland since December 2005.

Before becoming a politician he previously worked in the textiles industry and charity fundraising.

His special political interests include Northern Ireland, constitutional matters, European policy, economy, law and order, international development and the countryside.
