Smokers have been warned not to put out their cigarettes in a bin outside council offices in Norfolk because a family of blue tits is nesting there.

Staff spotted an "enterprising" bird sitting on her eggs in the metal cigarette bin fixed to a wall at South Norfolk Council in Long Stratton.

"The chicks have already hatched and are making quite a racket," a spokesman said.

He added that a sign had been put up to protect them from sparks and ash.
