Deputy Sean Power has been selected as the States of Jersey Housing Minister after two secret ballots.

The appointment follows the resignation earlier this month of Terry Le Main.

The first vote was between Deputy Power, Senator Alan Breckon and Deputy Jackie Hilton.

No-one received the amount required for office, so a second ballot between Mr Power and Ms Hilton was held, with Mr Power winning by 28 votes to 20.

Mr Power, who has been Deputy of St Brelade No 2 since 2005, was the assistant housing minister.

Mr Le Mains, who has been in charge of housing for 11 years, resigned from his ministerial role over claims he interfered with a Royal Court prosecution. He has denied the allegations.
