Wolverhampton student sentenced for air gun shootings

A University of Wolverhampton student who shot three children with an air gun from a halls of residence balcony has been given a suspended jail term.

Rikesh Patel shot a 12-year-old girl in the leg on 28 April, then shot a 14-year-old boy in the head and another boy the same age in the neck on 6 May.

Patel, 20, of Compton Road West, admitted three counts of assault.

He was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court to three months in jail, suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to carry out 180 hours community service and was made the subject of a 1900 to 0700 curfew for four months.

The court heard the boy who was shot in the head needed hospital treatment but none of the children were seriously injured.
