Man's body recovered from river in Northampton

The body of a man has been recovered from the River Nene in Northampton.

Emergency services were alerted to a body in the water just off Bedford Road, close to the Barnes Meadow interchange, in the late morning.

Police said the identity of the man is not known and they are keeping an 'open mind' as to how he died.

Two men, aged 31 and 27, who appeared to be with the man at the time he went into the water are being questioned by police.

A rescue unit from Nottinghamshire was called to recover the body from the water after a search by police supported by a helicopter.

The men, who both live in Northampton, are being interviewed to obtain information about the circumstances that led up to the man going into the water.
