Guernsey's Home Department has been asked to review gun control legislation by one of its members.
Deputy Sam Maindonald has called for the review following the mass shooting in West Cumbria last week.
Twelve people died when Derrick Bird opened fire in towns and villages on Wednesday, before killing himself.
The current laws were passed in 2006 and at the time the Home Minister Geoff Mahy said they were the most rigorous the island should have.
