Isle of Wight yacht pair rescued after injury

Rescuers were called when a woman was left to try to sail a 40ft (12m) yacht when her male companion broke his arm off the coast of the Isle of Wight.

The boat's mainsail was still up when the 63-year-old skipper fractured his arm leaving the boat approaching Cowes in a force five wind.

The woman raised the alarm and a RNLI lifeboat responded with its two crew members boarding the yacht.

The pair were brought to shore and the man was treated at St Mary's Hospital.

He fractured the upper section of his arm when it was caught between a winch and main sheet.
