Officers have released a description of two men being sought over a burglary in Southampton.

Armed police were called to the city centre's Carlton Road on Friday after reports the men had entered a house.

They were told a man and a woman were inside and the man had been shot but when officers arrived the burglars had fled.

One suspect is described as white, 6ft 3in and skinny, while the other is said to be black, 5ft 8in and stocky.

Both were aged 18-20.

CCTV inquiries

Armed response teams remained at the scene, near many of the city's pubs and bars, until 2150 BST and the house was searched.

A 21-year-old man received medical treatment at the scene for a cut to his head, but was not taken to hospital.

A woman, aged 22, was not hurt.

Detectives are now carrying out forensic, house-to-house and CCTV inquiries to trace the two men.

They said they were "treating this report as an isolated incident at this time".
