Borders bus services to be hit by strike

Bus services in the Borders are set to be disrupted in the first of three one-day strikes prompted by a pay dispute with operators FirstBus.

Drivers claim their hourly pay rates are less than counterparts in the central belt and that a 2.5% pay rise offer this year is not enough.

FirstBus has disputed this and said its wages paid in the Borders are higher than those of other firms.

An emergency timetable will operate, with about 50% of services set to run.

The flagship 95 service between Edinburgh and the central Borders will operate hourly, rather than half-hourly, with buses mainly driven by management.

Further strikes are planned for 18 and 21 June.
