Fire service translation for Doncaster Polish community

  • Published

A new translation service is being piloted to enable Polish people in Doncaster to report arson concerns and receive safety advice.

A team of interpreters will relay information to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's community safety team.

The service is intended to reach vulnerable and under-represented groups in the community.

Doncaster Council and South Yorkshire Police have helped set up the pilot, which will run for seven months.

Peter Jones, the fire service's community partnership officer for Doncaster, said: "It should never be the case that someone is unable to request fire safety advice or tell us about an arson risk simply because they speak a different language."
