Two held after man's throat cut in Ashton-under-Lyne

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man's throat was cut in Greater Manchester.

Police were called to a subway off Cavendish Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, just before 2000 BST on Friday where they found the injured man.

The 23-year-old was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition, a police spokesman said.

Two men, aged 23 and 21, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in police custody.

Det Sgt Claire Platt, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "The victim suffered an extremely nasty injury that could very well have killed him.

"We have responded quickly and been able to make two arrests but I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen what happened."
