Woman in 70s punched in robbery in Wellingborough


A woman in her late 70s was punched in the face in a street attack in Northamptonshire.

The woman was walking along near Morrisons supermarket in Oxford Street in Wellingborough on Thursday afternoon when she was pushed from behind.

A boy or man punched her and took her handbag, containing cash and cards, and ran off into the Swansgate Centre.

Police called the attack "cowardly" and said the woman was uninjured but "extremely shaken".

The offender is white, more than 6ft (1.83m), skinny, with tanned skin and black or dark spiky hair.

He was wearing a top with dark and light grey horizontal stripes, dark jeans and black trainers.

Anyone with information on the robbery, which happened at 1715 BST, is asked to contact Northamptonshire Police.
