Lorry driver punched in £3,000 cigarette theft in Essex

A lorry driver was punched in the face and robbed of cigarettes worth more than £3,000 at a service station in Essex.

The 32-year-old victim, from Rochester, Kent, was unloading at Kents Hill on High Road, Benfleet, in the early hours of Wednesday.

Two men got out of a silver estate car and attacked him before making off with the cigarettes.

Essex Police said they were both white and had scarves over their faces.

It is believed that a third person remained in the car.

Officers said the area was popular with early morning joggers and that they, or anyone else who was in the area at about 0545 BST, should contact them.
