Stones thrown at Derry crash scene police

Police officers investigating a fatal road accident in Londonderry on Thursday came under attack from stone-throwers.

Gareth Adams, 23, from Shantallow, died after a crash between his motorcycle and a car at Sandbank Cottages, off the Skeoge Link Road about 1530 BST.

Police said the first stones were thrown at them shortly after 1600 BST.

No officers were injured, but police said such incidents hampered investigations.

"When a fatal collision takes place, police must carry out a full and detailed examination at the scene to establish what happened for the sake of the family and for the local community," said a police spokesperson.
