Portishead pool closes due to sun tan lotion

A swimming pool in North Somerset was closed earlier because of sun tan lotion, a spokesman said.

Portishead Open Air Pool closed for about an hour due to "visibility issues". Some 1,000 people had visited during the day.

A spokesman said staff had turned up the filtration system to resolve the problem and half the pool would open until closing time at 1900 BST.

Some swimmers were offered refunds.

The spokesman advised pool users not to use sprays but to apply waterproof lotion at least 30 minutes before swimming.

He added that the pool was expected to open as usual on Friday.
