New sites for gypsies and travellers in Huntingdonshire

The number of traveller pitches in part of Cambridgeshire will more than triple by 2021, a council said.

Under current government policy Huntingdonshire District Council must provide 25 more permanent residential pitches by 2011 and a further 21 by 2021.

That is in addition to the 20 existing pitches set up in January 2006.

The Council said it also needs to provide for around 10 transit pitches on one or two sites within its area.

The council is looking at sites for residential and transit pitches in Alconbury, Earith, Straight Drove, Godmanchester, Ramsey St Marys, St Neots, Somersham, Upwood, Warboys and Yaxley.
