Steel replaces Cambridgeshire lead church roof

Parts of a lead roof on a Cambridgeshire church will be replaced with stainless steel to prevent thefts.

St Mary and All Saints Church in Willingham, near Cambridge, is a Grade I listed building undergoing repairs on the north aisle roof.

But due to increased lead thefts in and around the area, specialist stainless steel is being used instead.

Permission to use the steel was given by English Heritage, a spokesman for the church said.

The work has been funded by grants from religious organisations.
