A Royal Marine has been killed in a blast in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has said.
The incident took place on Wednesday and the soldier's next of kin have been informed.
He was killed in an explosion in the Sangin district of Helmand province, while taking part in a foot patrol with soldiers from the Afghan National Army.
This latest death brings the number of UK service personnel killed in Afghanistan to 290.
Lieutenant Colonel James Carr-Smith, spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said: "He died in the course of his duty seeking to improve the lives of the people of Sangin.
"His courage in the face of danger will not be forgotten. He will be greatly missed and we will always remember him."
